When to go to Tunisia?
Tunisia enjoys a Mediterranean climate in most of the country, except for the south where the climate is drier and hotter. Winters in Tunisia are rather mild and humid with temperatures between 46°F and 59°F. Summers are hot and dry with temperatures between 71°F and 95°F, even exceeding 104°F in the Tozeur region.
On the north coast, the climate is Mediterranean with very bright and warm summers. In Tunis, temperatures can climb to 93°F in the middle of August. During these hot months, rain is almost non-existent. Rain becomes more frequent from October to April when temperatures become cooler. Winters are not very cold and daytime temperatures exceed 59°F.
Travelling along the east coast, temperatures rise a little with less frequent rain and more frequent sunshine. In Djerba, it can reach 146°F in the middle of January.
If you want to visit the interior of the country, avoid the summer months when temperatures exceed 104°F and where you cannot benefit from the gentle coastal breeze. Opt for the months of April, May or October to discover this region.
For swimmers, the temperature of the water is slow to warm: in Djerba, it passes 68°F from June, climbing to 80°F in August. Further north, towards the beaches of Tunis, the temperature of the sea is a little cooler, reaching a maximum of 77°F during August.
When is the best time for your holidays in Tunisia? June to October is preferable for the country’s beaches and a warm sea. On the other hand, if you dread crowds, avoid July and August which are often overflowing with tourists. If you have the opportunity, the months of May / June and September / October are the most pleasant, as they are cooler and calmer. To discover the country and hike inland, avoid the summer months and plump for spring or autumn.
