When to go to Myanmar?
Burma (or Myanmar) has a climate of the tropical variety, with not two but three distinct seasons; the dry season from November to February, the hot season from March to May – with maximum temperatures which can reach 95°F, and finally the monsoon season between June and October.
The climate of Burma can be split into three main seasons.
The wet season or monsoon, which goes from June to October, is to be avoided if you are considering a stay in Burma. During this season, the wet weather is ever present and the sunshine is rather rare. The rain can be very fierce, especially in the northern part of the country. During this season, maximum temperatures come close to 86°F during the day. Along the coasts, there is an increased risk of cyclones.
After the rain, make way for the “cool” or “dry” season from November to February. The rain finally stops to make way for drier, sunnier weather. Temperatures vary between 64°F and 91°F. Remember to take jumpers as it is rather cool towards the ends of the evenings. It is the best season for a trip to Burma.
The hot season from March to May is a time when the temperatures are especially high, with maximums which can reach 98°F. The heat is hard to bear and this is why this season is not recommended for visiting the country.
If you are thinking of swimming, you should know that the sea temperature is warm all year round with little difference in temperature. It varies from 80°F in January during the cool season to 86°F in May, which means that it is very warm for swimming in.
To visit Burma, we recommend you go during what’s known as the “cool” season between November and February. You will be able to enjoy rather dry and sunny weather, ideal for exploring the country. You will then avoid the heavy rain which occurs during the monsoon, as well as the strong heat from March to May.
