When to go to Guatemala?
Guatemala is a country of grasslands and mountains. The latter cover half of its landmass. The country’s climate is predominantly tropical along the coasts and on the plains, but the higher the altitude, the cooler, drier and more temperate the climate will seem.
Guatemala possesses a tropical climate on its coasts and in the grasslands. It is hot and humid here all year round, with temperatures which change very little throughout the year. Along its Caribbean coast, maximum temperatures vary between 82°F in January and 91°F in August. This climate is characterised by a dry season which takes place from December to April and a wet season from May to October. During the rain season, the humid air is hard to breathe, especially given that temperatures during this time are very high. The thunderstorms can be very strong. In this season, you’ll be able to find a bit of a cool breeze at altitude.
For swimmers, you can enjoy a warm sea all year round with temperatures between 82°F and 87°F.
To head to Guatemala and discover the splendid Mayan remains, go hiking around the Atitlan lake or go bird watching in the Peten region, make the dry season which stretches from December to April your first choice. You will then avoid the heavy rain and muddy roads leading to the various sites you can visit.
