When to go to Ecuador?
The country is subject to an equatorial climate. As a general rule, you can draw a distinction between two seasons: the dry season and the wet season. However, you can see differences and variations depending on the altitude. In the Andes mountains, the temperature is quite cool all year round and is rarely above 64°F. The best season to indulge in rock climbing would be somewhere between December and January – the weather is dry and the winds at altitude are tolerable. Along the Pacific coast, the temperature is warm all year round with an average of 68°F. From December to April, the climate here is particularly appropriate for seaside activities; the sunshine comes out, the sea is the right temperature and the strength of the wind enables surfers to indulge their passion. Due to its geographic position on the Equator line, there isn’t really a good or bad time to explore Ecuador and the Galapagos islands. If, however, you wish to make the Galapagos islands your first choice, the months from November to April are best. Regarding inner Amazonia (the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and Yasuni National Park), you should preferably avoid the months of February and March when the rivers are too low to allow for easy navigation.
