Les villages du Nord

From Santa Eularia des Riu, you can set out north to discover the pretty little villages of Ibiza. Santa Gertrudis for example, has a delightful, lively town square, narrow streets with coloured shop fronts and houses, and photogenic spots ornamented by the residents. Don’t miss port de Sant Miquel either. Despite its appearance as a seaside resort, the coastal path leads you to discover the myriad unique shades of blue of the islands’ water. It is always a captivating view. With their cobbled streets lined with bougainvillea, the northern villages bring to mind the romanticism of the greek islands.

Lucie's tip : Puerto San Miguel is home to the famous Cueva de Can Marça caves, filled with dozens of stalactites, stalagmites and other impressive geological formations. It takes a short walk to get there, but the guided tour (possible with a bilingual guide) is well worth the effort

Eivissa

The capital, Eivissa or Ibiza town, is often the first port of call on a trip to the island. Discrete and charming, you can spend a morning strolling casually through its white streets in search of that special little something. Dalt Villa delights with its coloured shutters, cosy cafés and restaurants and numerous boutiques. Reminiscent of the Aegean Islands, there is a seductive atmosphere to the town’s streets. Largely pedestrianised, walking through the old town allows you to take everything in. Continue your walk to the port, a perfect place to visit for beautiful views of its houses nestled together. Overlooking the town, and built in the 16th century, Eivissa Fortress is another key site of interest. You can visit the fortress or take the steep climb to enjoy its exceptional 680°F panorama.

Playa d’en Bossa
Average visit duration: 2 to 3 hours

Playa d’en Bossa

It is impossible to imagine Ibiza without its nightlife, its open air parties and massive dance floors. But every summer, one place in particular draws the best DJs on the planet to kick off the party season: Playa d’en Bossa. Of course, Playa d’en Bossa is not for everyone, but it should be experienced, if only to enjoy the early evening atmosphere with food and a glass of wine. In the low season, Playa d’en Bossa is a lovely spot to relax, walk along the sea front and appreciate the peace and quiet.

Lucie's tip : Ibiza is full of wild coves and uncrowded beaches. Playa d’en Bossa should be avoided in the high season, if you’re not there to party. Loud music and inebriated young revellers are not our chosen memories of the island.

Es Canar and its hippie market

The small town of Es Canar has been a haven for hippies for decades. Visitors are attracted to the streets of the Punta Arabi market in this beautiful town, a few minutes from the seaside. Es Canar is emblematic of Ibiza. The island has long suffered as a result of its distance from the mainland. When tourism arrived, it brought new life to the economy. In the 1960s, hippies arrived en masse on the island to enjoy the “mind-blowing” parties. Over time, they began to sell goods here and there, allowing them to extend their stays. It continues to this day, especially in Es Canar. For more than 50 years, artists have exhibited their creations, concerts are performed and there are various items for sale (incense, mandalas, dream catchers) on site. Even without the shopping, it is a pleasure to discover the special atmosphere of Es Canar.

Lucie's tip : The Punta Arabi market in Es Canar is open every Wednesday from May to September. Las Dalias, close to Sant Carles de Peralta is open every Saturday.

Lucie's review

I had the opportunity to discover Ibiza in the springtime, before the island’s party season had begun. Before my arrival, I had heard that there is little of interest to do, if boozy nights on the Playa d’en Bossa are not your thing. And yet, I discovered a fabulous island of mesmerising blue seas, breathtaking landscapes and beautiful villages. Visiting outside of the summer season allows you to enjoy the beauty and peaceful atmosphere that island life can bring. I highly recommend a trip to Ibiza as a couple, with friends or with family. Close to mainland Europe it nevertheless offers a complete change of scenery.
